There are obvious links between the Credit Crunch and the Great Depression; for women’s fashion, though, this need not be so depressing. It was an era of pastel chiffons and subdued prints by day, with shimmery sequins and silks by night; a very feminine look. What makes this latest trend so popular is because girls can dress – finally – like girls. For so long, skinny jeans and fitted tees have ruled over the mainstream fashion industry, and now it’s time for a change. Floral styles, cloche hats, pencil skirts, conductor caps, and baggy, vintage-style dresses are making a big comeback. Fashion stores such as Banana Republic, Gap, and H&M are stocking up and cashing in on the latest trends, sending most girls flocking to the shops. Forget the sales – most stores are stocking less and selling more in these tough times – but keep an eye out for tumbling prices across the high street. And don’t throw out your skinnies, but hide them away for now. Let this be a reminder that fashion always come back round.
