Plans to rebuild the entirety of City College Norwich’s campus, at a cost of £173m, have been shelved following a national funding crisis. CCN failed to make the grade as part of the Learning & Skills Council’s (LSC) Building Colleges for the Future plans- meaning it will now have to wait until the next funding review. By 2015 the entire Ipswich Road campus would have been rebuilt to provide a modern, carbon neutral college for the growing number of local students.

In a meeting between NUCA SU and the college leadership, it was learnt that the college will stop funding artsy student magazine Storehouse. Although it was made clear that the issue was by no means a negative reflection on the magazine, it claimed said that "it is more appropriate...
Students continue to feel the brunt of the recession, as a government cap on the number of university places leaves tens of thousands of hopeful students with nowhere to study. Already feeling the slump in the job market, applications for university places in England rose by 10% this year - but the number of places available did not rise in line with this. Million+, a think tank led by 28 modern universities, have spoken out at the situation, warning that it could result in a "lost generation of talent".
As well as banning The Project team from distributing in Union House, the Union is striving to persuade the University to apply this rule across campus. At present, the Union represent the only group that has acted in opposition to The Project.
I’d like to take the opportunity provided by this new Norwich student newspaper to welcome you at the start of a new academic year, whether that be at UEA, the Norwich University College of the Arts, or City College.
Student Finance England (SFE) has run into problems processing applications from students.

It’s been a busy summer for UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU).

Ian Gibson, former UEA Dean of Biology and one of the heads that rolled during the expenses scandal, was replaced in the July by-election by Conservative Chloe Smith, in what was seen by many as an augur for the imminent general election. Following the 2005 election, Gibson held the seat with a majority of over 5,000, and almost 45% of the vote.
It looks like a bit of a mixed picture for green issues at UEA.

Adrian Ramsay, former UEA student and Green Party deputy leader, used his conference speech to criticise controversial Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes, of which the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is one example. The scheme, whereby the government allows private firms to build public hospitals or schools, and then rents out these buildings (at a profit), is divisive.
For: 94 Against: 677 Controversial plans to build a new ‘Campaigns and Representation Hub’ in UEA’s Union House received a resounding ‘No’ in student vote. The idea, proposed by the Union’s Executive Committee, would mean spending up to £100,000 on converting the snooker room and Part-Time Executive office into an open-plan work space. A group of students collected the 500 student signatures necessary to force the issue to the ballot box. Soon after the ‘No’ vote was announced, the Part-Time Executive Office, which would have become part of the new ‘Hub’, underwent a miraculous clean-up, leaving a clean, open-plan work space.
