For: 94 Against: 677 Controversial plans to build a new ‘Campaigns and Representation Hub’ in UEA’s Union House received a resounding ‘No’ in student vote. The idea, proposed by the Union’s Executive Committee, would mean spending up to £100,000 on converting the snooker room and Part-Time Executive office into an open-plan work space. A group of students collected the 500 student signatures necessary to force the issue to the ballot box. Soon after the ‘No’ vote was announced, the Part-Time Executive Office, which would have become part of the new ‘Hub’, underwent a miraculous clean-up, leaving a clean, open-plan work space. A bit like the Hub. But without the £100,000 price tag. More on this issue in Letters.
