Despite showing up fashionably late, The Fashion Project rocked up to Cambridge’s prestigious Lion Yard Shopping Centre to find a throng of excited shoppers, intrigued by the concept of a moving catwalk fashion show, which promised to showcase the latest high street looks on models riding the Centre’s revamped escalators. Home to both boutiques and mainstream retailers, the show gave fashionistas a chance to take a peek at the newest autumn trends, surrounded by canapés, chocolates, and the beats of the latest chart toppers.
Gathering on the red carpet after the show, the girls from Accesorize were keen to chat to The Fashion Project, and their looks were a definite highlight: fascinators and fringed gloves were a nod to the return of punk glam pieces, while jewel tones demonstrated the AW09 devotion to 1940s luxe. The models from Topshop were Eighties-inspired material girls, complete with rag tie hairpieces and plenty of backcombing, whilst Miss Selfridge showed us some ladylike chic with floral silk, sharp tailoring, and pearls. Finally, Ann Summers showed us their latest boudoir ensembles, and The Fashion Project girls couldn’t help but get in on the action!
There were two talking points at the show: firstly, the unique way that Lion Yard turned a feature upgrade into an evening’s entertainment; secondly, The Project. Press passes swinging on our blazers, we were instantly swamped with people angling for contact details or the inside scoop. We came away with as much anticipation as when we’d arrived.
